Welcome To OYEA

The organization began when the Prescott Public School administration sought out then Nevada County Agent Darren Neal, to spearhead an effort to reestablish an Animal Science program for the Prescott Public Schools. The organization was formed by creating an all-volunteer, 5-member board of directors from the community: Darren Neal, Fred Harris, Shane Meador, Mike Yates, and Brent Talley.

Our nonprofit 501c3 status was granted by the IRS in June of 2018. OYEA has no paid positions and no overhead; therefore, 100% of all money donated is used for the education of students in the animal science program and for the care of livestock used in the program. The top priority of both OYEA and the Prescott School District administration was to establish a strong educational environment.

Opportunities

More students can participate in agricultural extracurricular activities. Approximately 45 students are raising animals to exhibit in the fall livestock shows at the county, district, and state fairs.

Growing

Through grants and donations OYEA has been able to continually upgrade the quality of our livestock and acquire equipment to make the facility more efficient, safer, and more productive.

Evolving

We are currently in the planning stages of developing an embryo transplant program in conjunction with the University of Arkansas Southwest Research and Extension Center’s Agricultural Experiment Station in Hope, Arkansas.

Expanding

Enrollment in the Animal Sciences program continues to increase. The number of animal science classes offered has increased to four, including an advanced animal science class. Students can earn up to 2 hours of credit toward graduation. In the 2020-2021 school year there were 69 students enrolled in animal science classes.

Upcoming Events

Today’s youth have perhaps the greatest stake in achieving a sustainable future, and often the most innovative solutions. OYEA brings together the brightest and most passionate minds committed to building a more sustainable future.

Get Involved

Volunteers bring to any organization a special set of skills that one person alone cannot bring. Volunteer talents and skills contribute to a rounded learning experience for students. Those who volunteer, invest their time, knowledge, and skill set into the community and help nonprofits, like our organization, achieve the goals they have set. If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact any member of the Board of Directors or the Prescott School District administration. We need your involvement to continue to improve the Prescott School District’s animal science program.
